In brief

A £10m sustainable construction skills centre is to be created by University College Birmingham as part of the regeneration of the iconic James Cond print works building.

The Engineering and Sustainable Construction Centre, set to open in 2023, will offer state-of-the-art courses and facilities specifically designed to train and upskill learners that support employers and their supply chains.

The centre, located on George Street within the Jewellery Quarter’s Conservation Area, will specialise in robust courses that support the region’s growth areas, including cyber and digital skills, sustainable construction methods, manufacturing technologies, renewable energy, and robotics.

The James Cond Building's revitalisation will bring new life to the historic site while honouring the area's rich tapestry of history and delivering essential skills, job, and training opportunities to the city, which is expected to support more than 1,200 learners by 2025.

UCB has formed a new partnership with the University of Warwick, which will help broaden access to education and training opportunities and create clear pathways to employment.

Tilbury Douglas Construction is the development partner on the transformational scheme.
