Midland Metro - Wolverhampton City Centre Metro Extension

Here we follow developments on the Midland Metro in Wolverhampton City Centre from Pipers Row to Wolverhampton Railway Station terminus. It is due now to be completed by Spring 2023.

The Wolverhampton City Centre Metro Extension has been under construction since around 2017. There has been a few delays, including waiting for the new Wolverhampton Railway Station building to be built (and the old one demolished). Hopefully trams will be leaving Bilston Street for Piper's Row, Victoria Square and Railway Drive from Spring 2023 or later. The existing line to Wolverhampton St George's will remain open to the single platform for shoppers.

Pipers Row

May 2017 -

Utility diversion works began back in 2017 on Piper's Row. This site outside of Wolverhampton Bus Station will become Piper's Row Tram Stop.

Railway Drive

May 2017 -

The bridge on Railway Drive towards Wolverhampton Station was barried up, tracks would be laid as far as here before the old Wolverhampton Railway Station building was demolished.

March 2019 -

A pair of double tracks were laid along Railway Drive past the Wolverhampton Interchange in early 2019. This section from Victoria Square to the bridge over Ring Road St David's.

December 2019 -

Not much change on Railway Drive, as at this point, the new Wolverhampton Railway Station building had been built, but the old concrete one hadn't yet been demolished. Also i9 would be built opposite i10 at Wolverhampton Interchange.
