BBC BIRMINGHAM, THE TEA FACTORY- the relocation into the Typhoo Building
BBC Birmingham is to move into a custom-built, net-zero, 84,001K SF broadcast centre.
They will relocate from its existing Mailbox base to the Typhoo Factory – aka The Tea Factory – by 2026.
The 1929-built building will utilise two-thirds of its structural frame and will be positively adapted to house several BBC editorial teams, including The Archers, BBC Newsbeat, BBC Asian Network, BBC Radio WM, and Midlands Today.
The sustainable workspace will become one of the city’s first net zero carbon in construction office buildings, achieving a BREEAM ‘outstanding’ rating & an EPC of ‘A’.
Facilities will include editing suites, studios, workspaces and meeting rooms on the first and second floors, with roof terraces on the top floor.
A fluid public realm and square will also be formed, allowing for a canalside quarter, with potential for cafes, bars, and restaurant terraces as the masterplan evolves.
The masterplan of the wider site aims to deliver up to 800,000K SF of new residential, office, and hospitality space, over the next decade.
